This rare heirloom French field pumpkin was first discovered back in the 1800s. Citrouille de Touraine ( Tours) was named for its place of origin, and was listed by Vilmorin as early as 1856. Tours novelty pumpkin looks a lot like a watermelon and add striking visual interest to your fall displays. Its tall upright shaped fruit are dark green in color and have light yellow-orange stripes that run from the top to the bottom. Tours' fruit have a diameter of 10 to 14", stand 12 to 18" tall, and have a contrasting light green stem that is hard and firmly attached. Average Weight: 15-30 pounds. They were grown to feed livestock but were later valued for their distinctive large oil seeds with wide margins which were once used in the manufacture of sugar-coated pills and as a remedy for tapeworm. The seeds also were pressed for the generous amount of oils. Nowadays, the French grow these for their prized seeds.

The seeds are quite large with a huge margin around them These are similar to the silver edge pumpkin. Once roasted, these are claimed to be some of the best pumpkin seeds one has ever eaten. The flesh can be consumed as well, but only for specific cooking methods. Since the Tours pumpkin has thick and spongey flesh (almost similar to a gourd), it must be used in soups, stews, etc. So any dish that would allow it. to be parboiled, steamed, etc. works best. The flesh is highly nutritious and tasty to boot.
Very ornamental for fall displays. If left to sun cure, the green striations will turn orange.

11+ seeds

See more of our squash, pumpkins, and gourds here
https://www.etsy.com/your/shops/me/tools/listings/section:40920395?ref=seller-platform-mcnav

See the rest of our store here
https://www.etsy.com/shop/MountainRiverSeed

All our heirloom garden seeds are HAND-SELECTED and packaged in resealable airtight bags (Proven to keep seeds fresher longer than paper packets).
